Words, music & a few contradictions.

Manifesto

Some songs begin with a feeling.

Others begin with something we cannot quite put into words.

And sometimes, a song takes us somewhere entirely unexpected.

L’Atelier des Désaccords is the musical world of Quentin Piepszownik. A place for words, melodies, contradictions and the things that do not always find a resolution.

The artist

A guitarist since childhood. A songwriter under his own name.

A guitarist since childhood and a former member of the band SWAN, Quentin Piepszownik now writes under his own name. Moving between French songwriting, melodic pop-rock and atmospheric compositions, he makes music in which words are always looking for their place among the notes.

The record

DESIDERATA

Cover of DESIDERATA by Quentin Piepszownik: the title in cream capitals on black, crossed by a vertical red thread.

A record about what brings us together, what pulls us apart, and what we keep wanting anyway.

DESIDERATA explores the contradictions of love, the distance between desire and reality, and the compromises people make with themselves and one another. Moving between French songwriting, melodic pop-rock and atmospheric compositions, Quentin Piepszownik creates a personal collection of songs about the beautiful imperfections of being human.

The writing room

Writing by ear.

Quentin builds a line as much from its sound as from its meaning. Neighbouring words brush against each other, answer back, contradict one another.

paronomasia — n. A play on words that sound alike but mean different things.

On se rapproche, on s’effiloche
Arrangements entre ennemis We draw closer, we fray apart. In French the two verbs rhyme: the same sound for coming together and coming undone.
Désidérata, désirs et des ratés
Work in progress The album title, heard another way: desires, and the things that misfire.

A life in music

Before DESIDERATA, there was SWAN.

During his school years in Paris, Quentin co-founded the band SWAN with Nicolas Parpex and Lorenzo Benedetti. As lead guitarist and backing vocalist, he helped shape an English-language pop-rock sound steeped in British music, recorded several releases and played venues across Paris.
